Bigfoot Messaging
More Than Just Good Looks
Subscribers to Bigfoot
SMS will soon be seeing major changes on Bigfoot's
SMS site. The new look will be more than just a cosmetic
change. It is a direct result of Bigfoot's efforts in business
development, branding, backend scalability and usability.
The
biggest change to note is that Bigfoot SMS is now the flagship
service of Bigfoot Messaging, Bigfoot's text-based communications
services. Bigfoot Messaging is comprised of Bigfoot Web
SMS, SMS
Manager, SMS
Gateway and Email
Alerts.
For
our clients, the new look will bind Bigfoot SMS more tightly
into Bigfoot's overall branding effort. With the rapid diversification
of Bigfoot's products and services, it has become increasingly
important to maintain an overall brand our subscribers can
readily recognize and identify. The new architecture should
also improve information efficiency and let surfers get
what they need in the smallest amount of time and with the
fewest clicks possible.
One
of the more subtle but significant changes is the migration
to a .jsp format from the .php format. While this does not
have any immediately noticeable impact on Bigfoot Messaging
subscribers' experience, the change in technology makes
system maintenance and upgrading much easier and more scalable.
Also, the new site programming will allow for more options
in future upgrades to the Bigfoot Messaging system.

What Is Record-A-Call?
Record-A-Call
is Bigfoot
Conference Call's call recording
feature. This option is available to dial-in
hosts and can be enabled from the dial-in
"About" screen. Call recordings
are available on a per passcode basis.
Record-A-Call
is useful for referencing any information
and topics discussed during a particular
call. This makes for easier audio documentation
of important or critical calls.
Upon
entering a dial-in call with Record-A-Call
enabled, participants will be informed that
the conference call is being recorded. This
is to safeguard participants and satisfy
any legal or privacy issues that might arise
due to call recording.
Call
recordings will be available to account
holders after a few days. Once a recording
is available, account holders will be sent
an email informing them that their call
recording is ready for download and a link
to where the recording is hosted.

On New Anti-spam Laws
|
|
Bigfoot Anti-spam
Solution has been tracking the
progress of international anti-spam laws.
Here's a quick update on what's been accomplished
so far.
With
more countries and states jumping on the
anti-spam bandwagon, one wonders if these
newfangled laws will really work. After
all, the idea of a federal anti-spam law
has been knocking around for several years,
and to no avail. This year brings more than
3 proposals to the table and one has already
passed the US Senate.
Unfortunately,
the approved law, Burn's CAN-spam proposal,
has been criticized for being too weak to
actually make a difference. Some anti-spammers
claim that the new law actually legitimizes
spam and is a significant step backwards.
On
other hand, Virginia's new anti-spam law
promises to make spamming a very risky business.
With jail time, forfeiture of assets and
the option to have individuals sue spammers,
this law is everything anti-spammers dream
about. One can only hope this law doesn't
turn into a deep pockets litigation nightmare.
The
European Union took another angle and while
the EU opt-in only approach is generally
hailed by anti-spammers, enforcement of
the directives is another matter altogether.
Each sovereign state in the EU is responsible
for enforcing the opt-in rule. Results so
far have been mixed with some nations being
more aggressive while others go through
the motions.
Bigfoot
fully supports any and all fair anti-spam
laws and any legitimate measure that removes
spammers from the Internet will be welcome.
We encourage you to support existing anti-spam
legislation in your area and to ask your
lawmakers to craft fair and effective laws
to combat spam.

Submitting your URL to Search Engines
is not enough...
Effective Search Engine placement is a process
that involves submission, optimization and
resubmission. Up to 90% of Internet users
finds products & services through search
engines and directories. Monthly submission
is the only way to stay listed in the top
search engines A quality listing and optimizing
your site for better search engine spidering
can direct thousands of visitors to your
site
Submission: URL submission is adding a URL
to a list of URL's for Search Engine placement
programs, a.k.a. spiders or robots, to visit
or "crawl".
Optimization: is providing relevant information
in the content of a web page in the format
that a search engine placement program can
read. The more relevant information provided
on the web page in the proper format the
better the search engine placement.
Monthly Resubmissions: insure the URL will
be crawled on a regular basis
and the search engines will be able to store
new information about
the URL.

Blacklist Options For Email Tools
|
| Since
no single technology has proven to be 100%
effective in dealing with spam, Bigfoot
Email
Tools now offers blacklist options
for its subscribers for an additional layer
of spam filtering.
The
blacklists used are the ORDB (Open Relay
Database) and the SBL (Spamhaus Block List).
Both are listings of IP addresses that have
been confirmed as being spam sources. These
blacklists were chosen for their reliability
and low incidence of false positives.
While
blacklists are prone to mistakenly blocking
legitimate ISP's due to server misconfigurations,
the ORDB and SBL have proven to take extra
steps to confirm IP's as spam sources. Also,
any ISP's that have been mistakenly listed
are immediately removed from the list if
they act quickly and request to be removed
from the list.
Subscribers
may choose to disable blacklist usage by
logging on to their account and unchecking
this feature in the "ORDB/SBL Block
spam" page. Disabling blacklist usage
might result in increased levels of spam
and should only be done if you suspect legitimate
emails are being bounced or if you wish
to receive mail from spam-friendly servers.
Coupled
with Bigfoot's Anti-spam
Solution, the new blacklist options
should cut spam down to more manageable
proportions. To enable or disable blacklist
options, please click
here.
