Ask
James
and
Heather Question of the
Month | |
|
What Are
Online Directories?
James:
Online directory websites, such as Bigfoot
Directories, are web services that
make accessible to users information
such as people’s email addresses,
company information, postal addresses,
etc., from various network resources.
From these websites, users gather information
on a range of topics from people search
to finding jobs and booking travels.
Heather: Simply put,
online directories are the ‘electronic
counterparts’ of our paperback
yellow and white pages but with more
relevant search services. Aside from
the usual people and business searches,
other advance services are offered such
as background checks, school directories,
maps, criminal records and a whole lot
more. Also, most directory sites offer
personalized pages such as MyDirectories.
This optional service enables users
to take control of their directory listing
and searches.

Tomorrow’s Defense Against
Spam
|
| Bigfoot
Anti-Spam is keeping tabs
on current development in the battle
against unsolicited emails or spam.
In the past couple of months, various
Internet firms have sought new technology
to bring down spam to more tolerable
levels. Microsoft, Yahoo!, and American
Online, notably, are working on new
approaches that tackle spam at the domain
and IP address levels.
American
Online is testing technology called
Sender Permitted From or SPF, which
can verify that an email having an
AOL return address originated from an
AOL user, while Yahoo’s Domain
Key plans to place a digital key on
outbound Yahoo email to verify that
messages come from Yahoo. Similar to
AOL and Yahoo’s proposal, Microsoft’s
Caller ID system looks at the IP address
servers to verify whether the message
received is ‘fake’ or ‘real’.
The
email authentication systems these
companies are developing would keep
spammers from covering their tracks
by hacking into email servers and falsifying
data in a message’s sender field.
On the other side, some organizations
are also exploring techniques that would
force spammers to pay a certain amount
for a piece of unsolicited email. This
scheme would hopefully whittle down
the amount of junk emails being sent
to mailboxes.
While
these various anti-spam efforts are
full of hope, these solutions are for
the future. All these technologies are
still being developed and undergoing
limited testing. It may take some time
before these solutions take into effect.
In the meantime, individuals and businesses
should continue to rely on the latest
anti-spam filtering and gateway solutions.
Bigfoot
Anti-Spam is always on its
toes to come up with services and technology
that can filter out even the most sophisticated
spam. The Advance Anti-Spam Solution
is a proactive program and does not
require action from the end user.

Bigfoot Messaging Adopts Auto Reload
Program
Bigfoot
Messaging has launched its
Auto Reload program. This new messaging
feature enables paid SMS Manager subscription
members to keep their accounts continuously
active by maintaining a credit balance
on an ongoing basis. Subscribers will
thus avoid service interruption and
eliminate the hassles of manually renewing
subscriptions.
The
program, automatically activated upon
a subscriber’s initial purchase
of a Plan, will avoid SMS usage interruption.
Upon reaching 50 SMS credits or below,
a subscriber’s account will automatically
be charged the entire Plan amount and
a new balance of SMS credits will become
available. The new program stems from
Bigfoot’s mission of simplifying
and personalizing the Web experience
for customers.
Utilizing
the latest mobile messaging technology
and a wide mobile network coverage,
Bigfoot Messaging has been serving a
diverse clientele from companies to
individuals worldwide. Its fast and
cost-efficient message-sending applications
allow person-to-person or bulk messaging
straight from the desktop. Its bulk
of daily SMS traffic comes from countries
like the Philippines, Indonesia and
United Kingdom.
