Bigfoot Launches Anti-Spam Solution for POP3/IMAP Email Accounts
November 02, 2004
Hong Kong, November 2, 2004 -- Bigfoot Communications Ltd., a leading provider of IT services and internet-enabled
communications, has launched its new anti-spam solution for non-Bigfoot clients who are using POP3/IMAP servers.
Bigfoot Third-Party Anti-Spam Solution is powered by the continuously improving Inspector Mails Antispam Software,
a front-end Bigfoot Antispam Proxy Server.
The server works by proxying a connection between the user and their main POP3/IMAP server thus filtering spam while
they are in transit to the users' mailbox. Spam will then be configured to be deleted, or tagged, then filtered away
into the users' bulk folder.
This software is slated to support standard Email Client Software such as Outlook Express, MS-Outlook, Eudora, etc.
The currently developed version would not require system administrators to install software locally, but would be
provided with a control-panel to add and manage their users.
No monitoring or "training" is required for administrators to get it started. They just have to sign up, and then
add users according to their subscription limits.
Subscription is on a per email account, at a price of $9.95 per year. Additional plans, especially for business
or corporate use, will be available soon.
Here are the hallmarks of Bigfoot Anti-Spam Solution:
- Accurate - Adjusts to spam patterns and fine-tunes its filters simultaneously.
- Clear-cut Method - Low ratio on false positives.
- Instantaneous Approach - Real-time spam detection, analysis and filtering.
- Flexible System - Learns spam patterns and adapts its filters simultaneously.
- Worry-free Solution - No software installation, manual set-up of filtering options or download
updates required from the end-user.
Bigfoot Anti-Spam works effectively through these 3-step spam-filtering process:
1. Identity Specification Metrics - The origin of the email is checked in our propriety white list and blacklist.
2. Content Characteristic Analysis - Email is validated against a set of predetermined spam signatures.
3. Statistical Inference Algorithm - Email content is scanned for spam indicators using automated statistical techniques.

Bigfoot Announces New Email Forwarding Packages; Beefed-Up Plans Offer New Features & 2GB Storage
September 30, 2004
Hong Kong, September 30, 2004 - Bigfoot Communications Ltd., a leading provider of IT services and internet-enabled communications,
has announced the launch of its new and enhanced Email Forwarding subscription plans. Email Forwarding is a fast and inexpensive way
of keeping in touch with business contacts and friends whether one changed schools, jobs or ISP. It is particularly useful in forwarding
and distributing emails to several email accounts.
Apart from the Basic Plan, which is available for free, the enhanced subscription plans are the Premium Plus and Ultra Plus,
available for only $9.95 per quarter and $19.95 per quarter respectively. These two new subscription plans, which replace the
old Premium and Ultra plans, will come with unlimited number of email messages that can be forwarded per day, including these
power forwarding features:
- Distribution - to distribute emails to as many as 20 different accounts.
- Filtering - to reject unwanted emails, acting as another layer of protection against spam.
- Consolidation - to collect emails from 10 different POP3 accounts.
- Automatic Reminder - to let you receive emails to remind you of important occasions and appointments.
- Auto-Responder - to let you send automatic reply to received emails while you're away.
- Permaweb - to redirect netizens to your site.
Under the new plans, a subscriber will also get a free Bigfoot WebMail account with 2 GB storage space, a vast improvement from
the 50 MB and 100 MB storage space under the old Premium and Ultra plans, respectively.
The newest feature introduced is the SMTP Access, which is, however, available only to Ultra Plus subscribers.
Short for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, SMTP is a standard protocol for sending email messages between servers. Most email
systems use SMTP to send messages from one server to another over the Internet. The messages can then be retrieved with an
email client (such as Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape Communicator, etc.) using either POP or IMAP. In addition, SMTP is
generally used to send messages from a mail client to a mail server. That is why you need to specify both the POP or IMAP
server and the SMTP server in configuring your email application.

Communications Fights Spam With An Enhanced Anti-Spam Solution
December 3, 2003
Hong Kong - Dec. 3 , 2003 - Bigfoot Communications
announced today the launch of its new and enhanced Bigfoot
Anti-Spam, which will give email users a more manageable and
convenient solution to everyday spam problem. Powered by SpamChaser,
this new Anti-Spam solution aims to eliminate spam emails
before they reach the user, making email management a more
pleasant experience.
The continuous upsurge of spam emails
received by every email user, has led to the development of
a better and more efficient Bigfoot Anti-Spam solution. Recent
studies show that spam has definitely become an unwelcome
part of email life, with spam comprising about 50 to 60% of
all emails received, making it cumbersome and more difficult
for users to read legitimate email messages.
According to a study done by Network
World Fusion, the average user receives about 59 email messages
each business day and spends 77 minutes each week managing
his or her mailbox. An Osterman Research survey revealed that
users that do not employ any spam-blocking technology spend
around 150% more time dealing with spam than users that are
protected by such technology.
"We're glad to be able to equip
our subscribers with a more reliable and effective anti-spam
technology to face the growing spam problem." Nikolay
Butvin, Bigfoot Communications' Chief Operating Officer
said. "With the new Bigfoot Anti-Spam solution, we're
confident that our users will have a virtually spam-free email
experience."
About
Bigfoot Anti-Spam
The new Bigfoot Anti-Spam Solution takes on a multi-level
approach to spam filtering as it employs leading-edge technology
provided by SpamChaser. The three filtering levels are:
- Identity Specification Metrics - which
checks the origin of the email in our proprietary whitelists
and blacklists
- Content Characteristic Analysis -
email is validated against a set of predetermined spam signatures
- Statistical Inference Algorithm -
email content is scanned for spam indicators using automated
statistical techniques
The combination of these filtering techniques
makes it harder for spammers to manipulate spam messages they
send to get through the filters, assuring subscribers of more
than 90% effectiveness rate. A low rate of false positives
of less than one false positive in every 1 million messages
tagged as spam, makes it a very accurate spam-blocking tool.
Bigfoot Anti-Spam is very adaptive as
it quickly "learns" or detects spam patterns and adapts
its filters simultaneously. It is very convenient, with no
action required from the end-user, like installing software,
or manually setting up filtering options.

increasing all over the world. According to Nielsen-Netratings,
there are now about 580 million people worldwide who have
Internet access, which is a 3 percent increase from 563 million

use also comes the increase in e-mail use, as almost everybody
who has access to Internet has an e-mail account. IDC studies
show that Internet users are sending 5 billion e-mails per
day or 1.4 trillion e-mail messages per year.
E-mail is becoming quite an indispensable
tool of communication that a recent Gallop poll revealed that
nearly everyone at work are concerned about receiving e-mails
that they are compelled to check their mailboxes everyday,
57 percent of which claimed that they check their inboxes
every hour. The unprecedented growth in e-mail dependence
is forcing people to look for services that maximize e-mail

Introduces New Alternative Payment Option
October 9, 2003
Hong Kong - Bigfoot introduces new Alternative
Payment Option
As the number of online shoppers increased
significantly from 36% in 2000 to a whopping 62% in 2002,
there is still that 59 percent of Internet users that opt
to shop offline because of fear that their credit card information
might be stolen online. More and more e-businesses are turning
to alternative payment options in hopes of luring more potential
customers. In fact, it is estimated that over 63 million US
households will shop online by 2008. And that 63 million has
got these same e-businesses scrambling to find alternatives.
Bigfoot, an Internet veteran since 1995,
has grown from an email forwarding and directory search company
into a web-based communications provider with a subscriber
base of over 2 million. To keep up with its ever-growing subscriber
base and in a move for localization, Bigfoot launched the
new Alternative Payment Option early this month. The new Alternative
Payment Option allows Bigfoot subscribers to pay for their
purchases in three ways - check, wire transfer and fax; making
it easier for subscribers to choose which payment scheme they
feel is right for them. In addition, Bigfoot also provides
24x7x365 billing assistance for its subscribers. Even before
the Alternative Payment Option was available, Bigfoot was
already accepting payments through bankeinzug, a popular form
of debit card in Germany.

Conference Call Adds New Call Recording Feature For Dial-In
Hosts
April 30, 2003
Bigfoot
Conference Call, Bigfoot Communications' flagship
telephony service, has added a new call recording feature
for dial-in calls. The new feature, Record-A-Call, is available
on a per passcode basis and must be activated by dial-in hosts
prior to a conference call.
Dial-in hosts may activate Record-A-Call
by logging on to the hosts account and going to the dial-in
"About" screen which shows the hosts conference ID.
The account holder may then activate/deactivate Record-A-Call
and other account security options. Record-A-Call cannot be
enabled or disabled in the middle of a call.
When call recording is activated, each
party that enters the dial-in call will be informed that the
call is being recorded. This is to comply with any legal regulations
regarding call recordings.
Recordings for dial-in calls will be
made available to account holders after a few days. Once the
recording is available, the host will be sent an email prompting
that the recording is available and a link to where the recording
may be downloaded.
With this new feature, Bigfoot
Conference Call hopes to better serve its clients conference
call needs and provide better and more conference call options.

Upgrade for Bigfoot Anti-SPAM Solution
April 14, 2003
New York - Bigfoot
Communications announces that its Anti-SPAM Solution has
been upgraded and enhanced to be more effective in catching
SPAM. With the new service upgrade, Anti-SPAM Solution subscribers
should experience more discriminatory SPAM filtering and see
less false positives. False positives occur when legitimate
email is mistakenly tagged as SPAM.
The Anti-SPAM
Solution can now adjust filtering to compensate for minute
differences in known SPAM types and randomly generated characters
in subject headers. This is in response to a typical SPAMmer
tactic of using polymorphic SPAM methodology to defeat filtering
programs. Polymorphic SPAM is a technique where random changes
in SPAM content and subject headers are introduced to confuse
SPAM filters.
The upgrade should make Anti-SPAM Solution
more "intelligent" and reduce instances where SPAM
slips through. The Anti-SPAM Solution is powered by Brightmail.
Brightmail
Inc. is a worldwide anti-SPAM industry leader specializing
in providing network-level anti-SPAM solutions.

2002-- Bigfoot Communications (http://www.bigfoot.net),
a leading communication solutions provider today announced
the use of Brightmail's anti-spam suite of solutions to
drastically reduce the amount of unwanted bulk email ("spam")
from bombarding their over 2.5 million users.
Now, Bigfoot users will have a powerful
tool to block spam emails, ranging from bogus product offers
to pornographic advertisements, from getting through to their
Bigfoot addresses.
Bigfoot is also giving subscribers a
chance to experience for themselves the effectiveness of the
new anti-spam solution by offering them a 15-day free period
that will begin immediately after the official launch of Bigfoot

“Email spam is the one problem
on the Internet today that people want to see tackled in a
quick and comprehensive manner,” said Joe Mercado, CEO,

components in Bigfoot’s email system, which uses them
to filter out and store suspected spam.
Bigfoot officials are recommending that
subscribers take advantage of this subscription service to
reduce the amount of spam they receive every day.
This new service is the latest effort
of Bigfoot Communications and complements with existing efforts
against spam.

that filters unwanted email and Bigfoot WebMail, a comprehensive
email solution. In addition, new features will also be added
to SMS, Conference Call, and Bigfoot Domains - further enhancing
these services’ capabilities and ease-of-use.
Bigfoot has already had a positive impact
on its over 2.5 million subscriber base with the string of
communication product launches this year, “and we have
no plans of stopping there,” said Bigfoot Communications
CEO Joe Mercado. “In fact, we’re going into web
and exchange server hosting soon.”
“We aim to meet the whole gamut
of communication service requirements of our customers and
have everything under one roof for them,” he said.
Bigfoot Communications will soon unveil
its new Email Forwarding and Domain Registration Web sites
sporting a new corporate look this October.
